The Opportunity
Goodman is seeking a professional, skilled individual for our  Design Engineer position at our Fayetteville Tennessee location. If you meet the qualifications listed below, then we invite you to apply for our open position by visiting our website at www.careersatgoodman.com .  
  • Develop and manage project schedules related to new and existing product designs
  • Create, revise, and sustain HVAC product designs, utilizing knowledge of mechanical engineering principles
  • Analyze product designs using tolerance, thermodynamic, finite element, and computational fluid dynamic analyses
  • Document product designs by preparing bills of materials, cost analyses, drawings, and engineering change requests
  • Assist in redesigning major split system components to improve overall long term system quality, improve efficiency and reduce cost
  • Develop Engineering solutions to product related issues through problem solving and root cause analysis techniques
  • Participate on cross functional teams to launch products, resolve issues, and  support product improvements
  • Coordinate project work internally with the department and externally with other departments to ensure on-time completion of projects within budget
  • Work with suppliers to improve quality and resolve product issues
  • Assist Manufacturing with product launches and issue resolution
  • Drive continuous improvement projects related to product design and quality
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 4-7 years of experience with product design (automotive, appliance, or HVAC)
  • Analytical ability.
  • Broad mechanical engineering knowledge. 
  • Project skills. 
  • Design for Six Sigma; FMEA, Design of Experiments, tolerance analysis, value engineering and parts standardization (preferred). 
  • Experience in product development and engineering change process. 
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Excellent follow up skills are required.
  • Prior work experience in gas appliance industry is preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of CAD systems--Pro/E and SolidEdge is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Excel and use of databases is required
  • Ability to work the hours needed to meet project deadlines is required.
  • At least 4 years of experience with product design (gas appliance, or HVAC)
  • Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of combustion systems and mechanical design theory and practice.
  • Basic knowledge of material science and metallurgy with regard to gas heat exchanger design.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration and/or air conditioning design and application (preferred).
  • Knowledge of specifications and standards used in the gas appliance and HVAC industry (preferred).
  • Software skills including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Project and Outlook.
  • Effective communication skills - both oral and written
  • Effective project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
